Dr Peter Binyaruka is a Senior Health Economist at the Ifakara Health Institute (IHI) in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, with more than 14 years of experience in health systems and health financing research. He holds a PhD in Health Economics from the University of Bergen, Norway. Dr Binyaruka is an MRC African Research Leader on provider payment research, with an extensive research on performance-based financing in Africa. His research focuses on health financing policy, public financial management, and the monitoring and evaluation of health financing reforms, including Results-Based Financing (RBF), Direct Facility Financing (DFF), and health insurance reforms. He co-led the evaluation of DFF programmes in Tanzania and DRC. He has authored three book chapters and more than 50 peer-reviewed publications on health financing, program evaluation, equity and efficiency analysis, and progress toward UHC. Dr Binyaruka also serves as Section Editor for Health Economics at Health Policy and Planning.
