Dr. Landry Dongmo Tsague

Dr. Landry Dongmo Tsague is the inaugural Director of the Africa CDC’s Center for Primary Health Care (PHC), where he leads continental efforts to strengthen PHC systems as the foundation for accelerating progress toward Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and health security and sovereignty in Africa. His leadership places him at the forefront of advancing Africa CDC’s vision for resilient, self-reliant PHC systems tailored to the continent’s needs.
In this role, Dr. Tsague oversees a broad portfolio, including community health, maternal newborn and child health, nutrition, HIV/AIDS, TB, malaria, noncommunicable diseases, injuries, and mental health. He works closely with African Union Member States, regional bodies, and global health partners to advance an agenda of PHC transformation within the framework of Africa’s Health Security and Sovereignty.
Dr Tsague brings more than two decades of distinguished service in global health, health systems strengthening, and strategic leadership. Prior to this role, Dr. Tsague served as the UNICEF Senior Adviser to Africa CDC, providing high-level technical and policy guidance, and leading Africa CDC’s engagement with the Pandemic Fund. He previously held technical leadership and roles with UNICEF regional office for West and Central Africa in Dakar, and with UNICEF country office in Zambia, and Rwanda. Prior to UNICEF, he served as Senior Adviser at the International Center for AIDS Programs at Columbia University based in Rwanda. Early in his career, he was the Chief Medical Officer for Cameroon’s national PMTCT program at the Ministry of Health.
Dr. Tsague is co-founder of the Pan-African Medical Journal, one of Africa’s leading open-access scientific platforms. He holds an MD from the University of Yaoundé I, a master’s in public health from Emory University, Atlanta, USA, as a William Foege Fellow, and a PhD in Public Health from the University of the Western Cape, South Africa.
