Dr. Innocent Yusufu

Dr. Innocent Yusufu is a public health researcher specializing in adolescent health, with a focus on youth mental health and well-being. He has over eight years of experience across adolescent health, non-communicable diseases (NCDs), mental health, nutrition, HIV, and emerging infectious diseases.

He currently serves as a Research and Programs Manager at the Africa Academy for Public Health (AAPH) in Tanzania, where he supports research, training, and capacity-building initiatives to advance public health priorities across Sub-Saharan Africa. His work emphasizes knowledge translation and strengthening systems to improve health outcomes among young people. Dr. Yusufu co-led the Being Initiative landscape analysis in Tanzania and Ghana and is currently co-leading its ecosystem catalytic grant in Tanzania, focusing on youth mental health leadership, governance, and psychosocial resilience. He is also a member of the MHPSS Technical Working Group.

He is a doctoral candidate in Global Public Health at Karolinska Institutet, Sweden, holds an MSc in Health Services and Outcomes Research from Northwestern University, USA, serves as an appointed reviewer for Tanzania’s National Institute for Medical Research (NIMR), and is a 2025 Mandela Washington Fellowship (MWF) Alumni.
