Dr. Byron Bitanihirwe serves as the Mental Health Research and Development Programme Manager at Science for Africa (SFA) Foundation where he leads on youth mental health research from a low- and middle-income perspective-as part of the Being mental health initiative. His other work includes a Wellcome funded project that involves people with lived experience co-creating mental health research in Africa. Prior to joining SFA Foundation, Byron was a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Global Health within the Humanitarian and Conflict Response Institute at the University of Manchester. He also secured a Roche Postdoctoral Fellowship and has served as a Research Portfolio Analyst with MQ: Transforming Mental Health. He holds a PhD in neurobiology from ETH Zürich.
