Dr. Ibtihal Fadhil is the Founding Chair of the Eastern Mediterranean NCD Alliance and serves as Chair of the MENA Coalition for HPV Elimination. She previously worked as Regional Adviser for Noncommunicable Diseases at the World Health Organization Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean. A public health physician, she holds both a Master’s degree and a PhD in public health and epidemiology from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine at the University of London. Her work focuses on strengthening the development and implementation of national NCD strategies and advancing the role of civil society organizations in NCD prevention and control at both national and regional levels.
Over the course of her career, Dr. Fadhil has held a range of academic and clinical roles. She has served as an NCD consultant to Ministries of Health in the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Jordan, and Iraq, and has worked as an Assistant Professor of Community Health in academic institutions across Iraq, Jordan, and Bahrain. She has authored numerous papers and commentaries on noncommunicable diseases, public health policy, and cancer policy, and contributes actively to global advisory groups and committees supporting international NCD initiatives, including those associated with the WHO and NCD Alliance.
Dr. Fadhil also serves as a commissioner on several global expert bodies, including the The Lancet Commission on Women and Cancer, the The Lancet Commission on Global Cancer Surgery, and the The Lancet Commission on Patient-Centred Care for Universal Health Coverage. Through these roles, she contributes to advancing global policy dialogue on equitable cancer care, patient-centred health systems, and the prevention and control of noncommunicable diseases.
