Dr. Mary Mwanyika Sando is Chief Executive Officer of the Africa Academy for Public Health (AAPH) in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. A medical doctor with an MD from the University of Dar es Salaam and a Master of Public Health in Global Health and Population from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, she brings over 19 years of experience in maternal, child and adolescent health, nutrition, mental health and program implementation with organizations like UNICEF and MDH.
At AAPH, Dr. Sando leads research, capacity building, and evidence-to-policy translation to advance public health priorities within and outside Tanzania. She co-convenes the Africa Research Implementation Science and Education (ARISE) Network, linking 22+ institutions across 10 sub-Saharan African countries.
Dr. Sando serves as President of the Medical Women Association of Tanzania (MEWATA) and on the International Advisory Boards of Charité Center for Global Health and The Lancet Regional Health – Africa.
