Dr Shuaib Kauchali is a paediatrician and public health expert based in South Africa, with more than 25 years of experience in child health, epidemiology, health systems, and academic leadership. He leads the Division of Community Paediatrics and Child Health at the University of the Witwatersrand. His career spans frontline clinical work, research, postgraduate supervision, policy support, and programme design. He has worked extensively on maternal and child health, nutrition, paediatric critical care, child development, and health service improvement, particularly in settings marked by inequality and constrained resources. His work links population health thinking with practical service delivery and ethical decision-making. He has supported training, guideline development, and national and provincial initiatives to improve child outcomes. His current academic interests focus on how evidence, ethics, and health systems can be brought together to guide fair and workable decisions in child health policy and practice.
