Professor Eunice Ndirangu-Mugo is the Dean of the Aga Khan University School of Nursing and
Midwifery, East Africa, and a globally recognised leader in nursing education, research, and
health systems strengthening.
She holds a PhD in Nursing from the University of Nottingham, a Master of Science in
Advanced Practice Nursing, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Global Mental Health from the
University of Glasgow.
Over a career spanning more than 15 years, Professor Ndirangu-Mugo has shaped nursing policy,
academic leadership, and applied research across sub-Saharan Africa. Her scholarly work centres
on adolescent health, particularly the intersection of HIV, non-communicable diseases, and
mental health. She also employs human-centred design and implementation science to advance
culturally responsive, equitable health systems.
She has authored over 40 peer-reviewed publications and three book chapters. From 2020 to
2025, she served as Chair of the Nursing Council of Kenya, during which time her leadership
was pivotal in establishing Kenya’s first Advanced Practice Nursing and Advanced Practice
Midwifery scopes of practice, alongside key regulatory frameworks and the national strategic
plan for nursing and midwifery. She contributes to global nursing leadership through the
International Council of Nurses NP/APN Network Research Subgroup and serves on the board
of One Girl Can.
