1. Some people have difficulties with writing, others with reading, writing or listening. These are specific learning impairments, not intellectual impairments.

2.  Such persons may be of average or above average intelligence.

3. Be aware that learning disabilities are often not visible. So don’t judge people on how they react, write or talk. If a person reacts to situations in an unconventional manner, keep in mind that s/he may have limited processing skills which affect their behavior.

5. Adjust your communication according to his or her specific needs: such as use of visual information, audio information (instead of written texts) etc.

Most importantly, ask someone themselves how they want to be addressed, and how they want to be supported or treated.
